About

A white woman with long dark hair and light eyes smiles at the camera. We only see her head and shoulders. She is wearing a black and white cardigan over a red shirt. Behind her is the underside of an umbrella showing stars and galaxies against a background of dark blues and purples

Melissa Burkart (she/her) lives in Downeast Maine with her family and writes fantasy stories in the cracks between wrangling her two perpetual chaos machines (aka kids). She teaches creative writing workshops for both kids and adults, as well as offering one-on-one mentoring. Melissa always has an audiobook and knitting project in progress, and she runs away to join the theatre whenever she can. Her recent short fiction has appeared in Trollbreath Magazine and the Sudden Fictions podcast. Connect with her on Bluesky @mwithpen.bsky.social or contact her through the form below.

AI statement

I generally loathe generative AI and do not use it or condone its use especially in relation to my stories. The theft of creative work, hogging of resources and infrastructure, and contribution to the effects of global warming are unconscionable.
