May was hit-or-miss for writing. One of these years, I’ll remember how chaotic, busy, and all-encompassing the end of the school year is, but this is not that year. At least the kids’ workshop at the library was fantastic! And writing progress is still incremental, but forward motion is forward motion! I’ll take it.

The end is in sight! June has dance recitals and school year-end events, sprinkled with various appointments and a glorious stretch of family visiting. Of course, then the kids are home…

The registration links for my in-person summer workshops are live! Check out my Workshops & Events page for both the links and more info.

I also finally bought my ReaderCon membership, so I’ll be in Burlington, MA July 9-12! Not as a program participant, though I’m hoping to snag a reading slot if there are any to spare, but it will be my first con since I last went to ReaderCon in 2018.

The last time I was at ReaderCon, my oldest kid was still a baby. The next year, I just couldn’t imagine attending with a toddler. Then there was COVID and having a second kid. Now that they’re 8 and 5, I’m cautiously optimistic I can make this work again without overwhelming frustration. Of course, they’re coming with me. We’ll see how much of the con I get to and how much time I end up spending at the pools and playground. Wish me luck!

A combination of my May kids’ workshop at the library and mentoring work led me to write about regrets and how I have none over choosing writing as my career.

Stats

No subs this month and no responses on the couple pieces still out. I’ve been struggling to make my goal of eight hours or writing work each week, and it feels like over half that time has gone to workshop prep and mentoring. My time management has not been so great, making my tracking unreliable, at best. That just gives me something to work on for June!

Currently reading: I’m between books at the moment, so please hit me up with any recommendations!

Just read: Starling House by Alix E. Harrow* — gorgeously atmospheric, Gothic, sentient house-type story. It makes me want to write a Maine/New England Gothic story.
