This month has been WILD in the best ways. I took my oldest on a birthday trip to NH. I had my first coaching session for voice over work, my insecurities did NOT get in my way, it was a huge boost for my confidence, and now I’m even more sure that voice acting would be amazing. It’s still all about stories, after all.

Then my workshop series wrapped up, everyone seemed to love it, and I’m already planning what I want to teach next semester. The podcast has been so much fun to work on, while constantly forcing me to learn new things.

Fun podcast side effect: I can now hear audio elements I would have sworn a few weeks ago that I couldn’t.

News

Then Friday morning I had a phone call. A freaking AMAZING phone call that was not at all what I expected, and I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it. Unfortunately for you, I don’t know how much of the news I can share yet, which means this vagueness is all you’re getting this time around.

Blog

Nothing to see here this month, since everything has been just so busy.

Stats

I averaged near 15 hours of writing work each week, which is incredible. The podcast is largely to blame, adding 4-6 hours each week. Workshops–lesson planning, prepping, and the workshops themselves–averaged around 4 hours of work each week. That will drop off once I submit my classes for next semester.

Actually working on my story has been a different, well, story. This month, I’ve only been getting 1.5-2 hours each week of writing, which is not doing me any favors. So for November, I’ll be aiming for 6 hours of story writing weekly (despite my general lack of progress, I haven’t given up the idea of finishing this novel draft before Christmas), and upping my total goal for writing work to 14 hours a week.

While this month’s numbers make my eventual goal of 16 hours/week more than possible, I need to remind myself that I will not have the hours invested in the workshops, and that November tends to be a tricky month for productivity, anyway. I also have the possibility of jury duty to look forward to…

This month, I did not get any new subs out, but I received one rejection after the market had held the story for a flatteringly long time, and another rejection from an agent. We’ll see what I maybe manage to send out in November.

A tombstone (Halloween decoration) in the woods that reads:

WRITER'S BLOCK IS A KILLER
#DEADLINE
Still quite possibly my favorite Halloween decoration of all time.

Currently reading: Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett, which is every bit as excellent as the first book.

Just read: Where the Library Hides by Isabel Ibañez. This sequel to What the River Knows has even more painful betrayals, to the point that I had a hard time getting through the book, but I’m glad I made it. Egyptian archaeology in 1885 with a light touch of magic and a fantastically headstrong young Argentinian woman.
